Xiufeng Liu joined the UB Department of Learning and Instruction in 2002. Prior to coming to the university, he served as a high school science teacher and research associate in China, and as a tenured faculty member at St. Francis Xavier University and the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada.

In addition to serving as associate dean in the Graduate School of Education, he was interim chair of the Department of Learning and Instruction and a board member of the National Association for Research in Science Teaching (NARST), a worldwide organization that promotes science teaching and learning through research.

Liu’s research has been supported by a number of government and corporate institutions, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health and the Spencer Foundation. He has close to 100 publications, including 10 authored/co-authored and edited/co-edited books.
